Gingerbread Shapes

Ingredients

  • 125 g butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup treacle
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 heaped teaspoons ground ginger
  • 2 heaped teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • currants or silver balls for decorating

 

 

 

Method

Preheat oven to 180 C.
Beat butter and sugar together until pale and creamy, add egg and mix well.
Add sifted dry ingredients and mix until smooth. Tip dough out and wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour. Roll dough out to a thickness of .5cm and cut into gingerbread people or animal shapes. Decorate with currants or silver balls.
Place on a cold tray and bake for 15 minutes.
