Wedding Cake – Wendy Slieker

“Here is my first wedding cake (although I have been making all the family celebration cakes for years). It made for my niece Becky and her man Andy for their wedding in March this year. I used white chocolate mudcake, dark chocolate mudcake, salted caramel filling, white and dark chocolate ganache and covered it all in Satin Ice fondant and homemade cake topper and decorations made with gumpaste. The gold paint used on the cake included pure edible gold that was used by Becky’s 91 year old grandmother when she was younger. Sadly she wasn’t able to attend the wedding but a little part of her was included in the celebrations.

The cake recipe is one by Michelle Cake Designs (Australia) and uses no eggs so it keeps well when having to make this type of cake days in advance. It is so easy to make, always turns out well and can be used for any celebratory cake. It holds icing and fillings well and can stand up to variable temperatures. Plus everyone loves the taste. The ganache is also from Michelle Cake Designs.

I am thrilled with how it all turned out. even the wedding venue/planner said it was the best wedding cake she’d seen and was amazed it was my first one. It was certainly made with lots of love (and great ingredients)….”

  1. Your cake is one of my favourites Wendy. Super cute and I love the idea of using pearls and also love the heart bunting. The actual cake and fillings sound mouth watering good too! I hope you get a wildcard entry to the final even though I don’t want to have such tough competition! ;)

  2. One of the nicest wedding cakes that I have eaten in a very long time. Beautifully decorated and completed a wonderful for Becky and Andy. Congratulations on your nomination

  3. Wendy is an amazing cake maker/decorator but this first attempt at a wedding cake is a real tribute to her. Wendy lives and deals with an enormous amount of stress in her life with health issues of her own at the same time having to be a wife/care giver for her husband and to have produced a masterpiece like this which would of taken endless patience and effort is truly amazing and shows enormous talent. Congratulations on your nomination Wendy, all the best – you deserve it!
