My Mum had a white china bowl that was quite deep and not too wide at the top, the outsides didn’t slope but kind of stepped down, great for holding on to, I remember that the glaze had crazed in the bottom but was still fine to use. I wonder what happened to that bowl and the other depression pieces that Mum used! Here is the recipe, in Mum’s words.
Alison

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 5 dessertspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Method

Put dry ingredients in a basin and break in eggs.

Tip in some milk mxing til it is fairly thick, about a cup.

Let stand for 3/4 - 1 hour.

Add cream of tartar and baking soda.
It might need a little more milk added, use your judgement.

Mix in and cook pikelets, vanilla optional.
