Favourite hamburgers

Yield: 6

Ingredients

  • 2 slices toast slice whole grain bread
  • 1 onion
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 courgette
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons tomato sauce
  • 1kg beef mince
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 120g tasty cheese, sliced
  • 8 burger buns
  • mayonnaise
  • tomato
  • tomato sauce
  • lettuce

Method

Preheat oven to 180 C. Place bread in the bowl of a food processor and process to crumbs. Transfer crumbs to a large bowl. Add onion, carrot, garlic and courgette to the food processor and pulse until finely chopped. Add to the bowl with the breadcrumbs and mix in egg, tomato sauce, mince and season with salt and pepper.

Using wet hands form the mince into 8 patties.

Heat a little oil in a large frying pan and cook patties in batches until brown on both sides. Transfer to a baking dish and cover with a slice of cheese. Transfer to the oven to allow mince to cook thoroughly and cheese to melt and bubble (alternatively assemble cheese slice with cooked pattie).

Slice burger buns in half and toast.

Serve toasted buns with a pattie, mayonnaise or aioli, sliced tomato, lettuce and tomato sauce.
