This cake is so named as it makes enough to feed a crowd – hence the whole congregation

Ingredients

• 225g butter
• 2 cups sugar
• 2 eggs
• 2 tablespoons golden syrup
• 4 cups flour
• 2 tablespoons cocoa
• 4 teaspoons baking powder
• 2 teaspoon baking soda
• 600 ml milk

Method

Melt
butter and mix with the sugar, beat in eggs and golden syrup. Add sifted
flour, cocoa and baking powder alternately with baking soda dissolved in
milk. Pour into a lined tin and bake at 180 C for 45 minutes.
