much more difficult for me although I did manage 56%
the sheep breed thing is possibly a bit dated, it depends what it is being used for…
If you are looking at Italian wool suits, it’s definitely Merino; carpets and we aren’t making as much wool ones is Drysdale.
Perendale and Romney would be neck and neck as they are the basic wools for jerseys and so forth. But then again thermal acrylics are the way things are going…
Some of the socks would be R & P but also blends with Merino and possum…
Hi Cathy, I definitely did my research on that and some websites said that Romney made up 2/3 of the sheep in NZ and others said 68% such as this one.
The other breeds were a long way behind
I can say that from the point of view of the manager of a fundraiser for the Auckland Weavers/Spinners/other…
Romney isn’t the key fibre requested.
But on saying that Romney has a whole range of good/bad/ugly. One year when I was at a Wool Festival I bought 2 Romney fleeces, based on colour! Shouldn’t have as I had a very nice one and one – well not good at all…
