Award-winning chef and Garden to Table advocate Michael Meredith spent the morning with students from Owairaka District Primary School preparing for the opening of their new Fale Samoa. A key component of the Fale Samoa as a learning centre will be the Garden to Table programme which will teach students the value of growing, harvesting, preparing and sharing food. Vegetable gardens were established by the Owairaka students last term, including a new Pasifika garden next to the new Fale. This term students alongside parents, volunteers and a specialised cooking teacher will engage in experiences involving preparing and cooking produce from their own school gardens. Michael Meredith and the students selected produce from the garden and then prepared a tasty vegetable salad for the umu-style lunch which followed the Fale Samoa opening.

Meredith’s restaurant is also a part of the upcoming Garden to Table fundraising initiative Feast for the Future.
