  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • pinch salt
  • 1 cup peeled and chopped apple
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 2 teaspoons butter
  • juice 1 lemon
  • 1 teapsoon cinnamon mixed with 1 teaspoon sugar


Preheat the oven to 180 C.
Sift the flour, baking powder, sugar and salt together in a bowl. Make a well in the centre and pour in the milk and apple and quickly mix together. Place the dough in a baking dish. Combine the brown sugar, water, butter and lemon juice and pour around the apple dough. Sprinkle the dough with combined cinnamon and sugar and bake for 30 minutes until golden.
