Hoisin Sesame Chicken with Snow Peas

Ingredients

  • 8-12 chicken drumsticks
  • 125ml (1/2 cup) cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sweet chilli sauce
  • 3 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 250g snow peas
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

Method

Place the chicken drumsticks in a shallow dish with the hoisin sauce, sweet chilli sauce and 2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar.  Refrigerate for a couple of hours or longer if possible.
Preheat oven to 180 C.
Place the chicken drumsticks in a baking dish or roasting pan and cook for 40 minutes, turning at times, until thoroughly cooked and golden.
Toss sesame seeds in a small pan over a gentle heat until golden.
Mix the soy, sesame oil, sugar and remaining rice wine vinegar.  Slice the snow peas diagonally into thin strips.  Toss the snow peas with the dressing.
Arrange the snow peas on a platter and top with chicken.  Sprinkle over sesame seeds and serve.

  1. This sounds really good but where do you find Hoisin sauce? I’ve been to four different supermarkets and there’s none in sight.

    • I buy it at Lim’s on Apariana Rd. in Glen Innes. Probably most Asian grocery stores will have it in the bottled sauce section. Good Luck!

      • I live in Rotorua and Hoisin sauce is available in supermarkets such as Countdown and PaknSave.
